A recent TV news investigative report by WFTS, an ABC affiliate in Tampa, showed internet gambling cafes, often called “strip mall casinos” continue to spring up in parts of Florida despite a statewide ban on the facilities in 2013.

“The legislature spoke loud and clear when it moved quickly to ban internet cafes,” said John Sowinski, President of No Casinos.” Area law enforcement should move immediately to shut these places down and protect Floridians, and our local communities from this unchecked proliferation of unauthorized gambling.”

The Florida Legislature banned these gambling facilities in 2013 after criminal charges were filed against 57 individuals. The scandal also resulted in the resignation of Florida’s Lieutenant Governor.
