Florida Budget Surplus Shows Our Economy Rebounding…Without Casinos

Florida’s Revenue Estimating Conference projected that there will be at least a $1 billion surplus in this year’s state budget. Read the full story here.

This news refutes the argument often made by casino interests when they try to enter a state. They argue that in this era of tight budgets, casinos can be the panacea to boost the economy and government revenue. What they fail to mention is their track record of cannibalizing existing businesses, jobs and government revenue while increasing crime and social costs (http://www.nocasinos.org/the-issue/the-costs-of-gambling/).

Today’s announcement shows that our economy is strengthening and that we do not have to fall victim to the slick pitch of out-of-state casino interests who always pedal their wares in difficult economic times.
